The most recent Mega Millions jackpot, while won in Texas, brought a combined $41.5 million for New York’s public schools and small businesses across the state.
The Mega Millions jackpot rolled 28 times between June 5 and when the winning ticket was drawn on September 10, generating $101.1 million in New York ticket sales during the run. From the proceeds, New York State’s public schools receive $35.4 million, and Lottery retailers across the state earned $6.1 million in commissions.
“Every time a New Yorker buys a lottery ticket, whether it be for Mega Millions or a scratch-off in hopes of winning a prize, they are making a positive contribution to New York’s public schools,” said Gaming Commission Chair Brian O’Dwyer. “We are proud to continue to deliver on our constitutional mission to generate aid for education in New York State.”
Even though the Mega Millions jackpot was won elsewhere, multiple New Yorkers won prizes of $10,000 or more during the run, totaling $7.5 million:
- One Megaplier $4 million second prize from the June 11 drawing, purchased at Ralph Avenue Liquor Store in Brooklyn.
- Three $1 million second prize winners (June 11 drawing, purchased at Three Star Candy Store at 1673 Metropolitan Avenue in the Bronx; August 13 drawing, purchased at 741 Montauk, Inc. in Shirley; and September 10, purchased at Gulf Express at 986 Little Britain Road in New Windsor)
- 3 Megaplier third winners of $40,000
- 1 Megaplier third prize winner of $30,000
